Across the Caribbean, national OSH Acts modeled on the UK/ILO framework and transposing the CARICOM Model Law on Occupational Safety and Health require employers to make "adequate and appropriate" first-aid provision — maintained first-aid boxes and trained first-aiders proportionate to workforce and risk. Several statutes carry the UK threshold of a trained person in charge above 150 workers, while Barbados sets an explicit 25-person trigger.

There is no uniform pan-Caribbean staff first-aid or CPR mandate for day-care centres; requirements vary island-by-island and are frequently absent or unenforced. Where a jurisdiction is silent, the responsibility falls to each provider to keep trained caregivers as the standard.

Most English-speaking Caribbean states are common-law jurisdictions with no dedicated Good Samaritan statute — a rescuer's protection flows from common-law negligence principles, with no general duty to intervene and no specific AED-protection statute. Civil-law traditions such as Haiti are the exception and do impose a duty to rescue.

Across CARICOM, nurse registration is harmonized through the Regional Examination for Nurse Registration (RENR) administered by the General Nursing Councils, but this is an entry-to-practice exam and there is no harmonized region-wide continuing-education standard. Continuing-education requirements are set nation by nation, and keeping a recognized, in-date first-aid/CPR credential is the portable way to evidence emergency skills.

Across CARICOM, home-care agencies and residential settings for seniors and vulnerable adults commonly require staff to hold a current first-aid and CPR certificate, though continuing requirements are set nationally rather than region-wide. A recognized, up-to-date certificate meets the expectation, in addition to the worker's occupational training and renewed periodically.

In most Caribbean jurisdictions, foster carers are approved and supervised by a national child-welfare authority or department of social services through home assessment, background checks and pre-placement preparation, with a recognized first-aid and CPR certificate — including CPR for children and infants — commonly expected. Requirements vary by country and are set locally.

Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in the Caribbean (CARICOM), with no regional OSH Act prescribing a delivery mode and workplace training combining online theory with a practical skills assessment accepted. Certification is valid for 3 years and content is built on the ILCOR 2025 Consensus on Science.
